Q: What's with the logo buddy?
A:  We have a comical logo, and our office space has a casual theme as well. Our company policies are in general designed to minimize stress, and provide a realistic interpretation of the field we practice which is technology consulting. Some companies design a serious logo because they want to convey how serious they are. They may be serious, or they may be overly geared to profit making, or deficient in customer service. These traits cant be determined by a logo. Our logo portrays the playful nature, and curiosity that started the whole personal computer revolution.

Q: What are the contract terms of your managed services?
A:  Our managed services are offered monthly. There are no long term contracts involved.

Q: Have your technicians been Microsoft certified?
A:  Yes, our technicians are at least Microsoft A+ certified. We also have Microsoft Network certified technicians, MCSE, CISCO, and many offer qualified specialists.

Q: How do I begin using your services?
A:  For your first semester you can come in to meet with an admissions advisor anytime during walk-in hours Monday – Thursday 8am – 6pm or Friday 8am - 5pm.  After your first semester, you will be able to register via your Campus Connect account or schedule an appointment with an advisor in your program area through Appointment Manager.

Q: What is Orientation?  How do I sign up for it?
A:  New Student Orientation is a way for new students to become more acclimated with the services offered around campus.  It will be your introduction to the building and the technology and support offered throughout it.  It takes place the week before each new semester.  Sign up, as well as more information, is available through the orientation website: http://www.ivytech.edu/bloomington/admissions/orientation.html.

Q: What is the COMPASS assessment?
A:  If you are a full-time or part-time degree or certificate seeking student, or if you plan to enroll in any general education courses, you must participate in an academic skills assessment in writing, reading, mathematics and basic algebra. COMPASS must be completed prior to registration and the results from this assessment are used by the advisor and the student for course placement purposes. COMPASS is free of charge.

Q: Are there waiver options for the COMPASS?
A: Waivers will be granted to students who meet one or more of the following conditions:

  • An associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with completed coursework in writing and math with a –C– or better.
  • Completed college courses in writing or math with a –C– or better from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (valid 10 years).
  • ACT score 19 or higher in English, Reading, and Math (scores valid 4 years)
  • SAT score 460 or higher in Verbal and Math (scores valid 4 years).
  • Comparable assessment scores (COMPASS or ASSET) from regionally accredited institution of higher education (valid 2 years). If you feel you qualified for a waiver, you must complete and submit the waiver form at the end of the packet with the appropriate documentation.


NOTE: If you think you qualify for a waiver of all or part of the COMPASS, please complete the COMPASS waiver form and submit it, together with appropriate documentation to the office of the Registrar (Room A136).

Q: How do I sign up for the COMPASS?  What is the cost?
A: The COMPASS assessment is given in the Ivy Tech-Bloomington Testing Center in room C234.  There are no appointments necessary, simply bring a photo ID during walk-in hours and you may take the assessment free of charge.  The hours for the testing center are:

Monday through Thursday from 9am-9pm
Friday from 9am-5pm
2nd Saturday each month from 10am-3pm

Q: Can I transfer credits TO Ivy Tech – Bloomington?
A: Credits from may be accepted under the following conditions:

  • The school where you took the classes is regionally accredited
  • Classes are no more than 10-years old
  • Grades for transferable classes must be a –C– or better
  • Ivy Tech must offer a comparable class

All transfer credits will be at the discretion of the Dean of Academic Affairs.

Q: Can I transfer credits FROM Ivy Tech – Bloomington?
A:  Ivy Tech is a fully accredited community college, and offers a wide variety of courses that transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Typically, the Office of Admissions at the four-year school where you intend to transfer will determine which Ivy Tech credits will be accepted. It is highly recommended that you meet with your Ivy Tech advisor early in your first year to create an educational plan for transfer. A –Course Transfer List–, which provides a complete list of courses that transfer to public colleges and universities in Indiana, is available for download from the Transfer Center web page.

Q: What is Hoosier Link? 
A: Hoosier Link is a residential-based transfer transition program that provides students enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington with guaranteed transfer to Indiana University. The students selected to participate in the program will be involved in special support programs at Ivy Tech – Bloomington while living in the IU residence halls.

Q: Am I an In-State or Out-Of-State student?
A:  If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with an address in the State of Indiana, you are considered an In-State student for the purposes of tuition calculation.

Q: How much is your application fee?
A:  At Ivy Tech we do not require an application fee.

Q: What is the latest I can register?
A:  At Ivy Tech we allow students to register all the way up until the Friday before classes start.  We strongly encourage, however, that students register as early as possible so that they may ensure they get the classes and times that they want.  Classes have been filling up more and more quickly every semester.

Q: Can I take classes if I–m still in High School?
A: You may take classes as a high school student as long as you get written permission from your school to take classes at Ivy Tech.

Q: As a high school student, will my Ivy Tech classes count towards my HS Diploma?
A: It is up to your high school whether or not they will accept Ivy Tech credits.
